Enhanced Training Support for SMEs!

To encourage more Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to send their workers for skills upgrading and to enhance productivity, the Government will be increasing the funding subsidy for this group. The Enhanced Training Support for SMEs will help SMEs further lower the cost of sending their employees for certifiable training programmes supported by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), and academic Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes offered by the five Polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education. SMEs will get to enjoy subsidies* of 90% of the course fees when they sponsor their employees for the above-mentioned courses as well as claim absentee payroll funding* of 80% of basic hourly salary at a higher cap of $7.50 per hour. This three-year initiative will take effect from 1 July 2012.

What is NICF?

The National Infocomm Competency Framework, or NICF, is jointly developed by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), in conjunction with the infocomm industry, and is part of the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) system. The NICF defines the competencies needed for various key infocomm job roles at different levels, and facilitates the skills development and career progression of infocomm professionals.

The NICF underpins skills formation and enables infocomm professionals to have greater access to competency-based training and to attain recognized certifications. Through NICF, infocomm professionals can continually upgrade themselves and companies can develop their staff, in both specific infocomm occupational skills and generic employability skills. Companies can also use the NICF to enhance their human resource and training systems.
