Achieving Business Benefits Realization using COBIT® 5

Date  to be confirmed

This one-day course provides guidance to IT and business executives and managers seeking to improve business benefits realization in their organization. In parallel with practitioner guidance found in COBIT 5 for Security, COBIT 5 for Risk, and COBIT 5 for Assurance, this course addresses guidance specifically for business benefits realization, and leverages COBIT 5 as a comprehensive framework for governance and management in enterprises.

Why Benefits Realization of IT-enabled investments is a Strategic Imperative and the use of COBIT 5

In a 2008 study on benefits realization, researchers have found that, in the majority of enterprises surveyed (57 percent), less than half of the change initiatives undertook delivered the expected business benefits.[1] This conclusion is consistent with earlier studies which show that that the majority of IT-enabled initiatives are judged to be unsuccessful. Clearly there is an underlying message that the effectiveness of business benefits realization could be improved; and with COBIT 5 as the business-IT governance and management framework of choice, we can expect better practices and better outcomes.

The subject of business benefits improvement of IT-enabled investments has long been on the interest list of business executives and managers, but has been somewhat overshadowed by the pre-dominance of “keep the lights-on” or KTLO share of the IT budget. Now, thanks to recent developments to boost IT productivity (cloud computing, DevOps, Agile/Lean etc.), the KTLO share has been dramatically reduced to make room for more business-focused IT-enabled investments. This gives rise to the imminent rise in significance of improved practices and outcomes in this area. One indication of this is the dozen or so books and research published for this area just in the past 5 years.
